Another New Password

A Poem From 2016
Welcome the New Pharisees
High Priests of acceptability
Guardians of society
Fascists of collectivity
Hypocrites and whitewashed walls
Dead men's bones
Occupying the places the churches vacated
Learning and State infiltrated
The New Hate Think disseminated
Casting out verbal lepers
Ravenous wolves dressed as shepherds
Sparing no outraged methods
Gods of words admissible
Creating disciples
Barring the way to heaven
And not entering themselves
Ironic self description
Self victimisation
Perpetually reasons seeking
Crucify him, crucify!

Welcome To Ed's Funeral

A poem from 2016
Did you ever know that you're my hero?

Irrationally loved
Chemical illusion
Cremated in the bathroom
Matches and petrol
Fire alarm dismantled
“It's what he would have wanted”

You are the wind beneath my wings

Welcome to Ed’s funeral
Ultimately meaningless existence
He lives on in your hearts
Infantile sentimentality
We wash his ashes down the plughole
“It's what he would have wanted”

In all his glory
Born a fish
Regressed to stealing chocolate from the corner shop
Smoked cigarettes when he was 14
Encouraged by his dad
Career criminal
In and out of jail, mostly for burglary
His four children to three mothers
Hardly knew of his existence
Hardened alcoholic
Foul mouthed fighter
Knuckle duster

Fly fly fly high against the sky

Stardust animal
Bacterial stain
Amino rancid
Wayward platelet
Gangrenous image
Requiem aeternam
Kyrie eleison
Dies irae

“That day is one of weeping,
on which shall rise again from the ashes
the guilty man, to be judged.
Therefore spare this one, O God,
merciful Lord Jesus:
Give them rest. Amen.”

The Older Woman

A poem from 1991

It is I.
It is she.
We are not we.
The older woman
is close,
But far away
from the lie.

Dragon

A poem from 2016
I thought you died out a long, long time ago
Speaking with forked tongue
Revenge was wreaked upon you
Stabbed through the heart
Silenced
Your flame extinguished
The venomous bite antidoted
Strong jaws bound
I thought you'd been tamed
Or had eaten yourself
Swallowing your tail
And moving on up the scales
Higher
Crescendo

Wildly ugly
Mean
Only your mother could love you
But here you are again
And to everyone's surprise you've burst the shackles and escaped
Great again, dragon again
Born again, resurgent
And it turns out you are beautiful
And it turns out you're not a monster
And it turns out your enemies were mad
And you are a butterfly
Delicately misunderstood
Deliciously alive
You love having your tummy tickled
And you want to see everyone smile

Milton Keynes

A poem from 2016

Satan laughed
But he's not laughing now
Turned pastures green
Into a concrete cow
War in Heaven
Chaos in Hell
Grids of boredom
Sterile prison cell
Angelic War
Endless Abyss
Urban planning
We all died for this
Tree of knowledge
Marital scene
Broken down
Nightmare
The hero falls
Cursed, banished
Rich legacy, farmland
Lost forever
Fallen Cherub
Modern living
Choked spirit
Enforced amalgamation
You are all one
Tower reaching to Heaven
Oh, for a Flood!
Economic revolution
Mitigate depression
Provide green spaces
Governmental hope for souls
Prediction of disaster
We are here to help you
Oh, War!
You destroy the human soul
Take life away
We wait for Paradise Restored
We wait
How long, Oh Lord, how long?

God Save The Queen

A poem from 2016

God Save the Queen
Because we're not too keen
On what comes after
King Charles the 3
Bemoaning modernity
Talking to his plants
And her who usurped the Sainted One

God save the Queen
We love Her Maj
The pageantry
The pomp
The ceremony
We are enthralled by her
It excites us when she smiles and waves at us
We'll keep the red, white and blue flag flying here

God saved the Queen
Long she’s reigned over us
Her views largely unknown
We let her say what she really thinks
For three minutes on Christmas Day
We gather round the TV
A seat reserved for the turkey
And tears well up inside
As we sing the National Anthem

God save the Queen
She's a record breaker
She's all most of us have ever known
We can't imagine her gone
We'll likely get a day off work
But I'd rather spend eight hours in the office
Than mark the end of an era

Stilton

A poem from 1985
My love is like a Stilton cheese -
mature
and mouldy

Gretna Green

A poem from 2016
A Scottish embrace
In bronze
Witnessed and sealed
High priest of the anvil
Were questions asked?
Young love
Rejected lovers
Frantic parents?
Undermined

Cross border elopements
Professional witnesses?
Facilitating happy couples
Brightening prospects
Happy rustics
Links of love
Good for trade
God of Love
On a pedestal
Real life beckons

Fait accompli
On return
New life within her
As yet unknown
Happy greetings?
Frowns and scowls?
Or lost forever
Never to come back?

Gretna Green
Romance scene
Married teen
Loved up sheen
Have you been?
