God Save The Queen

A poem from 2016

God Save the Queen
Because we're not too keen
On what comes after
King Charles the 3
Bemoaning modernity
Talking to his plants
And her who usurped the Sainted One

God save the Queen
We love Her Maj
The pageantry
The pomp
The ceremony
We are enthralled by her
It excites us when she smiles and waves at us
We'll keep the red, white and blue flag flying here

God saved the Queen
Long she’s reigned over us
Her views largely unknown
We let her say what she really thinks
For three minutes on Christmas Day
We gather round the TV
A seat reserved for the turkey
And tears well up inside
As we sing the National Anthem

God save the Queen
She's a record breaker
She's all most of us have ever known
We can't imagine her gone
We'll likely get a day off work
But I'd rather spend eight hours in the office
Than mark the end of an era
