Polytunnel

A poem from 2019

I am in need of protection
In season and out of season
Predatory cold and clouds stalk me
Can you save me?
Can you shelter me?
A place to hide
A place to grow
Wafer thin it seems to be
A force field to shield
Can I rely on you?

Pick My Pocket

A poem from 2019

You took money out of my pocket
And gave it to the workshy, the dossers and the lazy
You took money out of my pocket
And saved the life of a stranger while wasting billions on inefficient IT systems
You took money out of my pocket
And educated the children of others, turning them into politically correct, brainwashed fools
You took money out of my pocket
And flew overseas, at times to help the poor and at times to gun them down
You took money out of my pocket
To build roads and bridges I will never travel along
You took money out of my pocket
And gave it to a foreign superstate
And when I ask, who gave you the right?
You say, well, you voted us in

Thin Places

A poem from 2019

heaven and earth mingle
who has the upper hand?
thin places, where God and man commune
a piece of bread, a sip of wine
a bowed head and a thankful heart
sins forgiven and life begins again

Stasis

A poem from 2019

They were excited
Entering their first home for the first time
He somehow managed to carry her over the threshold
For a laugh
And it was indeed a giggle
They didn’t yet know about the dead body in the loft

Slowly decomposing
Food for flies and maggots
Yet blissfully unaware of it
Of anything
As flesh was deconstructed
So was society

If Jim could just wake up fifty years in the future
What technological advances would make life easier?
Flying cars?
He doesn’t realise that society will be unrecognisable
A temporal culture shock
All that he cherished would have gone
Replaced by pollution and decadence

Lie on the sofa for a bit
A nice cup of tea will make all things right

I Am Wonderful

A poem from 2019

I am wonderful
I am amazing
I am fantastic

Unlike you

I am incredible
I am terrific
I am excellent

Unlike you

I am brilliant
I am fabulous
I am marvellous

Unlike you

I am sensational
I am awesome
I am… THUD

He is cold
He is stiff
He is dead

Unlike you

Chocolate Orange

A poem from 2019

Whack me on the bottom
Unwrap me and
I will give you what you like
Smooth and silky
Melting in your mouth
Essential kisses

Irresistable
I’m made to share
But I’m all yours if you dare
Disappearing
One small kiss at a time
Vanishing act, want more?
