The House

 

At 2am the house wakes up

Stretches its arms

Straightens its back

Cracks its knuckles

At 2am I wake up

Afraid of ghosts and other intruders

Ferry

It used to be highlight of my little life
The destination within sight but separated by a watery grave
Little boat, little boat
Chu-ga-chug and take me with you
A step inside and a wobble
And a heart of joy
On the river but not getting wet
A small boy feeling very special

I'm always waiting

I throw my hands into the air

Without spot or wrinkle

A heavenly sprinkle

Conclusion is that there’s probably nothing to worry about

Probably isn’t definitely

And a niggling voice repeats and repeats in your ear

This is it

It’s all over now

You’re going to die

Make your peace

Cry in your beer

Tell the wife you love her

Animals

 

Animals can smell the fear

It sets their teeth on edge

Teeth to bite, defending

Attacking

They sit all day typing on their laptops

Swiping on their screens

Myopically challenging

Worlds apart

A common humanity separated by lies

Here come the little birdies, fighting She said robins were vicious little things I wonder where they get it from? I wonder

Why are you so snappy?

Why are you so bitey?
