Train

A poem from 2016

Note: to get the most from this, watch me perform it on YouTube...

*I was cheated by you and I think you know when
Do do do do do, la la la la la*
Oh, I love this song
So very jolly
Bouncy
*Mamma Mia! Here I go again!!
La la, do do do resist ya!*

(All aboard! Woo-oo woo!)

Oh that email!
Stupid woman
What’s wrong with her?
I try to be nice
and helpful and all
I get in return
is abuse! She gets on
my nerves when I
see her name in
my inbox I
Freeze and delay
Opening it
Dragging me down
To her level
Criticising
All that I do
Nasty words and
Crap attitude
How I wish I
Didn't have to
Deal with her pettiness
She should get her
Self sorted out

(Chug chug chug chug
Woo-oo woo!
Tccccchhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
End station! Everybody out, please!
We hope you hated your journey
And now feel grumpy and irritated!
Please jump onto this thought train in future
Whenever you're feeling happy!)

Oh no, I missed the rest of the song….
That's my day ruined!

Pass the Popcorn, Please! (A ballade)

A poem from 2016

Watch me perform it on YouTube...

Watch those suckers fighting!
They devour each other every day
They claim to be uniting
Pressurised to stay
While desperate to get away
Crawling crimson knuckles and knees
Relish the internecine fray
Pass the popcorn, please!

Brothers, sisters, biting!
Politicking power play
Pledged allegiance owing
Fragile oneness, come what may
Half-mast the red flags barely sway
In the gently blowing breeze
Watch the acid shower spray
Pass the popcorn, please!

Nuclear winter approaching!
Observing the Hell to pay
Blood and bones displaying
Hominid puree
Do you wish you could replay
And make the time we squandered freeze?
With horror and dismay we say
Pass the popcorn, please!

So crack open the Beaujolais!
Discard for once our heart's disease
Sit beside me, interplay
Pass the popcorn, please!

Conspiracy

A Poem from 2016

Watch me perform it on YouTube...

Conspiracy, conspiracy, everywhere
And not a drop to drink
Paranoia pervades my friends
And in the past
My heart would sink
To fearful fear
Thinking the same

They're all out to get me
To stab me in the small of the back
Crippled by imagination
“They”
The faceless
The anonymous
Out there
The whatever percent

And now
Powerless
The waters wash beside me
Bliss
Happiness
Not eroded
Peace
With my crossbow
I shot the monster

Forbidden Fruit

A poem from 2016

Watch me perform it on YouTube...

Behind that fence
That barbed wire topped fence
Your fruit
Your juicy fruit
Hanging close
Tantalising
Rich
Ripe
Orange
Fruit
Mouth
Watering
Salivating
Let me get it
You won't stop me
I want what's yours
It's my right
You planted it
You cared for it
You nurtured it
You loved it
I see it
I want it
It's mine!
Give!
It!
I demand!

This Isn't Heaven

A poem from 1986

Watch me perform it on YouTube...

4 white walls surround me
but this isn’t heaven

Jesus is with me
but this isn’t heaven

angels screaming
blowing their trumpets
imitating a squeaking door
but this isn’t heaven

a plastic cup oozes imaginary liquid upon a sullied floor
worn away by a million automatons
cigarette ash tarnishes it’s furrowed brow
and spent matches dance the polka
in 4/4 time

an empty sweet packet lies dead on the ground
no, this isn’t heaven
this is the factory packing hall gents smoke room

The Power of Paranoia

A poem from 1992

It’s the thing that paranoia is made of

Strange,
but it’s true
that sideward glance that life casts
at me
Unloved at first sight

We find everything
but that which we want
I want her
but how could I find the way
into her heart?

In more menial example
this creeps upon me
and this poem achieves nothing
it is not worth the paper it is written on
