We are King Herod

We are King Herod And you are infant Jesus We are flying our flags And you will bow

Your inexpressible joy

Will become inexpressible

Your life will become so intolerable

You will gladly flee to Egypt

Good riddance to you

We don’t want your sort round here!

Senior Moments

Oh dear

My brain slowed down to zero

Can’t concentrate

Turned to mush

Just sit and stare for a bit

It will come to me

A middle aged moment

The words stuck somewhere

Between mind and mouth

Eyes roll

Bring my medicine

It’s all good

Maze

Which Way to go?

The one who isn't a dead end

Which Truth to follow?

The one who sets you free

Which Life to lead?

The one who sees it all

Kill Ratty

The poor little chappy

Just looking for food

But he’ll bring his brood

And if you don’t kill him

Your state will be worse than at first

So trap the blighter

Live in the light

Big Cheese

Snap shut

Smile of a Child

If only you knew
When you smiled as a child
What was to come

What would you do?
Take the rough with the smooth?
A bit young for suicide

Take heed, mothers
Take heed, fathers
Teach your child and cover them with kindness

Do all you can do
Give them the best chance you can
If they come to hate you, it won’t be your fault

Almost A Widow

She lived a fake life

She lived to tell the tale

She lived a double agent

She almost killed her man

She wanted so much to be real

She wanted so much to love

She wanted so much to believe

It was almost a perfect plan

These words are life and death

These words are Spirit and Truth

These words might get you killed

These words might set the world on fire

She turned her life upside right

She turned her life onto the best path

She turned 180 degrees

She lives for a better plan

Shame

“He’s not the sharpest tool in the box” Scoff scoff, scoff scoff Shame him Look down on him Call him thick Call him names Laugh and laugh Point and point Slap and slap Scowl and scowl

But he’s kinder than you’ll ever be

He has a sweet spirit

He’s nice

He goes out of his way to help people

Shame on you

Shame on you

Annual

What goes around, comes around

Again and again and again

Like a clicking clock

Like a ticking bomb

Celebrate while you can

Again and again and again

Like a slowing clock

Like the LED flashing numbers of a bomb

A year passes by

Again and again and again

Like a stopped clock

Your heartbeat counted down to zero

The Change You Want To See

It is always the time for revolution

It is always the time for self-righteousness

It is always the time for hypocrisy

Topple the statues, but leaves the idols in your heart untouched

Scream at sinners, but claim that you are good

Smash the state, but bite the hand that feeds you

If not now, when will you humble yourself?

Be the change you want to see

If this is the future you want, be very afraid

Garage

Keep me safe

Hide me away

It’s in your best interests

Shelter me from the storms

Protect me from the wicked

We’ll love you for it

Rejoice over me

Sing aloud, beat that drum

We give you thanks

Check me over

See if I’m defective

Keep me in your loving arms

Finished

 A 2020 poem

I am sad

Mourning for a lost world

It is finished

I am sad

Not for myself

I’m flying out of here on a cloud

I am sad

How much longer

Humanity never changes

And yet

The actions of a minority

Destroy the bigger picture

Words Fail

 A 2020 poem

Having eyes

He sees nothing

Having ears

He hears nothing

Having a heart

You get where this is going…

Nobody admits they were wrong

Nobody admits they are proud

Nobody against nobody

Nobody backs down

No shame

No guilt

No fear

No sense of self awareness

Words do nothing

You see this all the time…

Dog against dog

Dog eats dog

Dog chases its own tail

Dog eats itself

Inside, Outside

 A 2020 poem

Wearing a smile

And yet a bag of bones

Putrefying, stinking mass

Bubbling, boiling

Troubling, toiling

Wearing a scowl

Choice morsel of anger

Arrogant, fetid mass

Self, righteous

Self righteous

WYSIWYG

Or maybe not

Is it in the eyes

Or in the soul

A whole hole

Inside, be clean

Outside, be bright

In God’s image

Shining, light

Shining light

Hemisemidemiquaver

 A 2020 poem

Sometimes we all mean the same thing
Only we say it in different ways
And sometimes this is an illusion
A way to make us feel like one big happy family

As for me, I am the least of the least
The smallest of the small
A mere inconsequential nothing
And yet still highly valued by the creator of music

You can get lost in a crowd
If you’re really skillful you may be able to avoid them
Life wouldn’t be the same without you
You are needed and loved

Holding On

 A 2020 poem

Holding on

With a vice-like grip

To every last shred of human dignity

As it departs

Piece by piece

The forgetfulness

The vomit she sits in

The yellow stain of wet appearing

Ringing the bell

Falls asleep

Good News!

A 2020 poem

Good news! There is no God.
Good news! There is no hope.
Good news! Your life has no purpose.
Good news! There is neither good nor evil.
Good news! The universe is indifferent to you.
Good news! Hide that knife.
Good news! Call the Samaritans.
Good news! You don’t matter.
Good news! Okay, just go ahead and kill yourself.
Good news! No one cares.

False Prophet

A 2020 poem

Let him be happy for a while
Fill his ears with lies, and smile

Calamity is creeping to his street
Marauding in the darkness
Claws extended, ready to take a swipe
Tell him he is safe
Clap your hands, tell jokes, distract
Play a little game, pocket the cash

Speak a vain imagining or three
Keep that silly talk away from me
