Tempus Fugit

A poem from 2019

"Time flies when you're having fun"
Truth, or a lie?
Why
Would you want time to hurry by?
Nearer to death, oblivion?
Nearer my God, to Thee, eternity?
Eke out those precious seconds
Once the sand has passed through the timer
That's it, this side of resurrection

Floppy Disk

A poem from 2019

People say I’m out of date
But does that bother me? No!
I am a fount of information
You couldn’t dream of all I know
The essentials
The meaning of life
Not all manner of gossip, hate and nonsense

I know truth
I am solid, four square
You can rely on me
A slim model, hardly
Perhaps you find me clunky
Within my hard shell is a soft centre of love

I am protected but the ashes to ashes
The dust to dust of wicked man
Can twist me out of shape
That is not me
That is a rogue copy

Thin Places

A poem from 2019

heaven and earth mingle
who has the upper hand?
thin places, where God and man commune
a piece of bread, a sip of wine
a bowed head and a thankful heart
sins forgiven and life begins again

Adrift

A poem from 2019

Stuck in the middle of a dense darkness
Separated from you, but not too far
I drifted away, it was stupid and wrong
Will you reach out to me, or must I run?

Prayer Is Boring

A poem from 2019

Prayer is boring
But why should this be?
Talking is not boring
And prayer is talking
Talking to an invisible God
Known or unknown god

Is the boring part that you don’t hear an answer?
Believe me, some people talk nonstop
You can’t get a word in edgeways
If you ask me, listening to these windbags is boring
If anyone is bored by prayer
It’s likely to be God

Two Hearts

A poem from 2019

Two hearts hung out to dry
Their love was martyred
Side by side, tears in eyes
Connected to the vine, dictator defied
Psalms were sung and praises rung
While many scoffing looked on
Spirits were not broken
Bravely they looked ahead
Their souls remained alive
When all rejoiced to see them dead
And now they cry out, “how long?”
And are daily joined in this plaintive song

The Planets 7 - Neptune, The Mystic

A poem from 2019

Sit still and relax
Listen to the god within you
Listen to the demon within you
Angel voices lead you upwards
Fairy singing draws you into the abyss

All is quiet
All is floating
A sea of lost humanity
Waters bubble up
Warm springs
Your safe place
It’s only in your imagination
Unreal

Come, says the Bride and the Spirit
Come, says Beelzebub
Beckoning
A reckoning
Forwards
Backwards
A tussle, an old law, a new law
Laziness
A humming in the ears
A trance
A dance, slow

It creeps upon you, creeping, creepy
Insects buzz inside your head
Stars light up and shine before your eyes
You feel yourself drifting away
You have some sort of choice
Choose life
Or fade away

Black Ice

A poem from 2019

I can’t see you
And that makes you a dangerous enemy
Imposing yourself on top of reality
A slight distortion
It’s enough to send us sliding
Careering to injury
Maybe to an unrepentant death

What an unusual form for you to take
Black ice
Not red or fiery
Not an angel in white
You seek to stay hidden away where nobody sees you
Where they can blame God
Or some natural phenomenon

Apex Predator

A poem from 2019

Here's a video performance:
APEX PREDATOR YOUTUBE

Top of the food chain
King of the hill
Ruler of demons
Hungry, hungry hippo
Slithering and roaring
Metaphor upon metafive
Beastly angry
So little time

Prince of dark lightness
Unthanked liar
Devourer of innocence
Puncturer of dreams
Master of unexistence
Laugher to scorn
Desert monster
Black heartless dawn

He kids himself the world is his
His head lies crushed under the foot of a crucified God

In Flatworld

A poem from 2019

Side by side
Different but somehow similar
Disparate lives thrown together
Boxed in, living stones

In Flatworld we fail to appreciate
The fullness of each other
Dimensions will be added
What is missing will be made known

Diamond

A poem from 2019

I’m just an insignificant little thing
A tiny teeny weeny speck in time
A nanosecond, a breath, a heartbeat
And yet I’m loved and cared for

Doted over by a loving Father
Hidden away yet a light to all
A shiny diamond in a clay jar
My time will come, when I’ll shine forever

Almost

A poem from 2019

So near, yet not quite
An almost-perfect reflection of your glory
In eternity, a different story

Stand strong, sons of light
Despite your troubles rise up tall
Earth has glimpses of heaven, after all

Man in the Middle

A poem from 2019

A straight line
From beginning to end
A tree of knowledge
So begins the bend

Light me no light
Dark me no dark
Command me no command

In the middle comes a new man
He is the line drawn
In him is light and life

Before and after
An enemy stirs up wind
Swirls of confusion

Here stands the man
All around is chaos
In him is life still

Proxy War

A poem from 2019

A star cast down from heaven
Seething, full of anger
Watch out, happy world
That fire is subtle danger
Await another star
A baby in a manger

Fury, fury, time is short
The child chased into the desert
Slaughter, murder in the town
Blood soaks the soil
Rachel cries, why did this befall her?

Let’s kill the son and heir
The world will be ours
The world is not enough
Eliminate all who get in the way

You use the wrong words
You think the wrong thoughts
You pray the wrong prayers

Tortures devised to change minds
Broken bodies laughed at

These sorrows are for his sake

Sinkhole

A poem from 2018

Who would have thought it?
The ground swallowed us up
Sin by simple sin eroding the image in us
When marred beyond recognition, came judgement
Our world gave way without listening to the warning
We fell into darkness, made by our own hands
Yet still a hand reached down, offering salvation
