Almost A Widow

She lived a fake life

She lived to tell the tale

She lived a double agent

She almost killed her man

She wanted so much to be real

She wanted so much to love

She wanted so much to believe

It was almost a perfect plan

These words are life and death

These words are Spirit and Truth

These words might get you killed

These words might set the world on fire

She turned her life upside right

She turned her life onto the best path

She turned 180 degrees

She lives for a better plan

Force Restart

A 2020 poem

Every sinful pleasure that gnaws away at bones
Every human instinct, every flaw unknown
Every tasty morsel of every fruit delight
Every sniff of darkness, every needle night

Unaware of enemies that stalk
Unaware of serpents that talk
Unaware of angels dressed in red
Unaware of birds residing in the head

He wakes up in the morning
This is another hungover day
He forces himself to his feet
Thinking only of 16 hours till he can sleep again

Awake, fool
Dead dreams
Feel the cross
Force restart

Work In Progress

A poem from 2018

That life I painted in the past
I was never truly happy with it
Now I'm rubbing it out at last

I have left behind a mess
I am truly sorry for it
All my philosophy was a guess

Piece by piece the vision restored
I will truly seek to be it
Rejuvenated by the Lord

Happy Feet

A poem from 2018

Seraphim and cherubim
And all the holy angels
Disco dance on golden streets
Pure joy when a sinner repents

How about us?
Are we happy too?
Does it depend on who the sinner is?
Are we a grumpy older brother
Angry that the sinner got away with his crimes?
Are we indignant that one who is a worse sinner than us is forgiven?
Do we wonder what God is playing at
Forgiving one as bad as that
Doesn’t he know what that one did?
Are we cynical, thinking their faith is just a sham?
Do we insist on hellfire, forgetting that we too were rescued?

Seraphim and cherubim
And all the holy angels
Disco dance on golden streets
The lost sheep Jesus went to seek has come back home

Ingrown Toenail

A poem from 2017

This was all down to me
Through laziness, through ignorance
Through my own deliberate fault
Cutting in
Causing pain
Inflamed senses
Blood, no guts
Oozing badness
Defiant but bowed
Why oh why?

I could have done things better
I could have relieved the pressure
I could have looked after myself
Though in part this is just my nature
Jumping in at the deep end

Wash me well with water and the word
Change me from within
Remove the stony heart and replace it with a heart of flesh
Heal me gently
Teach me in your humility
Conform me to your nature
Remove the root of bitterness
And do not break this poor man down

The pain, so intense
Make me numb
I can't take it
This infection within me
Remove it, please
Drain away the evil

I look to you because I've let it get so bad and can't do this on my own!
