Watch me perform it on YouTube...
so much pain
so much eloquence
so much thinking
- for nothing!
- who was she?
- where did she go?
Her trail of unknowing disaster
is my backslidden mood
so much pain
so much intention
so many unfruitful plans
- oh, nothing
- it doesn’t matter
plenty more sea in the fish!
But no more wish
fantasy is not reality
reality is too painful
- - fantasy counts for nothing
NOTHING
- - no sale
- - no money paid
- - nothing ventured
- nothing gained
only losses
left out in the cold
of a dark, stormy night of the soul
which has no end
except in it’s new beginning
Strange. Made me reflect on my blessings. Thank you for this
ReplyDeleteThat's good. Me too, actually. That's the dim and distant past and I'm so grateful for my wife.
DeleteWow!? It's so super ironic I read this right now!! *handclaps* I loved this!!!! This was so deep, and really where the mind goes! Great, great work here Paulie!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad it is *helpful?* Nice that such an old poem still resonates today but then it's part of the human condition.
