Hope

It's never ending
I'm always waiting
I throw my hands into the air
Until the Prince of Peace comes

Wafer Thin

A 2020 poem

The tiniest of tiny things
Havoc and destruction
Alive and dead, a zombie call
Wafer thin, the chances of non-survival
Evolution, adieu!
Humanity precious
Two legs good
No legs bad

The tiniest of tiny sins
Havoc and destruction
Dead, so dead, a zombie call
Wafer thin, overestimated survival chance
Devolution, adieu!
Humanity precious
Two planks good
No Christ bad

In Dark Days

A 2020 poem

In dark days
Where hope cannot be found
Does anyone have a word from the Lord?
Anyone? Even one?

In dark days
Hope is found in Christ
He is still the light of the world
Crush me. Redeem me.

Pesto

A 2020 Poem

They laid his bruised and bloodied body in the ground
They grabbed the largest pestle they could find and got to work

“Get out of this one!”
“Save yourself!”
“Prophesy! Who is crushing you?”

He said nothing
Not because he couldn’t speak
But because of his dignity and desire to forgive

A sweet smelling offering as heaven and earth watched on astounded
A culinary medicine to save the human soul

Pomegranate

A poem from 2019

A million seeds held together by a Father’s love
A million seeds containing a precious Son’s blood
A bitter-sweet experience, a Body divided, yet one

Catnip

A poem from 2019

Against the odds and every expectation
I am drawn to you, not kicking, not screaming
But in a daze of reason and instinct
I am giddy with delight and no longer acting naturally
Let me curl up and rest with a smile and a stretch

The Planets 4 - Jupiter, The Bringer of Jollity

A poem from 2019

By Jove! What a grand entrance he makes
This is not the image he usually brings to mind
Stolen by a jolly fat man

Here he comes, a fanfare
Laughing, in three-four time
Spinning around
Take your partner by the hand
Wait your turn
He will get to you in the end
You have all eternity for a meet and greet

He strolls arm in arm with his children
The dancing mice so tiny should watch their steps
Though really they are in no danger
His peace he gives to us
His peace he gives to them
Galaxies cannot hold his mirth
All was made for his pleasure
Come and take your share
He has held back nothing good

You can laugh now
You couldn’t cry if you wanted
All tears have been wiped

The Planet 3 - Mercury, The Winged Messenger

A poem from 2019

He is rising!
He gives you wings!
You fly high - on a high

Horses can be used for different things
Multi-purpose
A dancing horse that transforms
Gallops towards the Sun without getting burned
Returns with a rider in white
Bringing happy news!

Stardust, he flings and transforms us
A heavenly river he pours over us, refreshing
Golden shoes places on our feet, we dance
On golden pavements
Full of fairy smiles
We leave behind the myths
We become real!

We steal Pan’s pipes and run around
Background noise fades
Now come joy and jollity
Praise and glee
Now it increases without measure
Faith and hope shed
All that remains is love!

Gravadlax

A poem from 2018

I spent my life swimming
Swimming against the tide
Jumping to get higher
Closer to the heavens

I was spied on by enemies
Enemies seeking to entrap me
They were no match for me
So I jumped into their net

They sent me to the slaughter
Slaughter one for the good of many
My bones were not broken
I sacrificed my life

Three days and three nights wrapped
Wrapped and becoming sweeter
Purified from the sins of the world
I was not resting

I have been cured
I am the cure
My body whole
My body sliced
Take and eat

Ampersand

A poem from 2018

Scratch my name with nails
On the palm of your hand
Hold me even closer
Than hope in a Promised Land
Love intricately woven
Into a wedding band
Purse your lips and kiss me
Eternally we are And

Chain-gang

This is a poem I wrote in 1985.
Watch me perform it on YouTube.

I was a slave
and my master was the world
he led me in his wicked ways
and
knowing no better
I followed him.
He snapped his fingers
and I jumped
he raised his gun
and pumped me
full of death.
Life poured out from the holes
he tore in my heart
so  I was too weak to fight.
Resistance was useless.
I sinned
and thought that it was good.
A preacher came to the camp telling of a better way
and his words
were like a candle in a dark
dark room.
He spoke of a great Liberator
who would free me from my bondage
for all eternity.
Yet surely I could not be saved
from such a lowly
place as this?
I waved good-bye
to my hopes
but I kept on listening
because I liked the preacher
and enjoyed his words.
The preacher left
and bereft of my friend
the world took up my chains again
and told me to act
in his evil pact
and I did
though grudgingly
as I thought of the Liberator.
The preacher came a second time
and saw that I was falling further
into confusion over his message
so he explained again.
And I decided to follow him!
He baptised my head in holy water
and my soul in Jesus Christ
whom I believe is the Son of God
then I thrust Satan out
and let Jesus in
to my heart.
I felt released
and looked down
my chains flew off!!
I ran away with Jesus
and the preacher held my hand
It was dark
but I could see
for the Holy Spirit guided me.
The world was furious with me
but I just hid in the Rock
and the world passed by
a slave no longer am I!

Galatians 5:1 - "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."
