Ding Dong

A poem from 2017

Oh, no!
Someone's ringing the doorbell!
I hate that
Who could it be?
Do they know I'm home?
Is it a friend?
Or someone wanting to sell something?
Some dodgy cowboy builder wanting to rip me off?
Can I get away with not answering?
I'm busy!!!
I hope they can't hear the TV
I'll be quiet and still until I think they've gone
Shh!

Oh, no!
Jesus is ringing the bell again!
He knows I'm here
There's no deceiving Him
He's offering bread and wine
I can feel myself getting hot and sweaty
This is embarrassing
I stay still and breathe shallow breaths
My mouth is dry
My throat gulps involuntarily
I'm hungry and thirsty
But what price would I have to pay?

  1. The price for salvation is steep
But from the bread and wine you can reap
Don't be afraid to open the door
Let him in and let yourself find out more

    Nice write, thank you
