A poem from 2017

A plain clothed police car

Carrying plain clothed policemen

Catching plain clothed criminals

For a plain clothed crime

In a plain clothed courtroom

A plain clothed jury

Gives a plain clothed verdict

And a plain clothed judge

Sends them to a plain clothed jail

Or maybe not?

Maybe they covered their tracks

And there wasn't enough evidence to bring them to trial

Or maybe the female jurors were won over

By a cheeky smile

Or maybe the judge, a woolly liberal M’Lord

Reduced their sentence because they were bored

Or sentenced them to community service

To cut the cost of jail

Not caring if the public sees this as a fail

The rich get fined while the poor are locked up

I wonder if there are statistics to back this theory up
