The Axe/Stubborn (Appendectomy Part One)

Two poems from 1985

The Axe

Sheep led to slaughter.
The abattoir doors are locked behind them.
The wicked priest smiles
As the axe chopped the prophet in two,
The people all laughed to see such fun
Till the axe came down on them, too.

Stubborn (Appendectomy Part One)

Remember Who gave you life and will take it away
Remember who looks after you every single day
Of course we need the bad times so that God can make them good
You haven’t been listening to a word I’ve said
But then I didn’t expect you would

One Of Those Nights

Here's a poem from 1989

Watch me perform it on YouTube...

tonight was a night to forget
a night of annoyance
a night lacking satisfaction
a night of sin
where bloody-minded hypocrites
complain at calling a spade a spade
particularly the spade with which they dig

they do not care
they do not spare a thought
they that themselves may be causing offence -
but it’s different when it’s them -
they can justify it

deep within my mind and emotions
are sadness and annoyance

I sin
and all to no avail
because it offers much but fails to deliver

it’s one of those nights that makes you wish you were ill in the morning so as not to face the consequences and horrors of what has happened, and will happen

Antichrist

A poem from 2016

Watch me perform it on YouTube...

Smiling
Deceiving
I am good for you
Come on in
Please mind the door
I'm looking out for you
I've got your back
Hi!
I'm multicoloured
My blood red lips
Not natural
Always looking for a victim
Er, I mean, pal
I am funny
I am welcoming
My golden arch
Gateway
To happiness
Take your fill
Fatten up
Have a *nice* day
My little piggy
Do you want fries with that?

Micropoetry No 2

Another selection of short poems...

Epitaph (1985)

When I died
this is what they put on my headstone:
                “HE DIDN’T COME TO DANCE
                 HE CAME TO WRITE POETRY”

Colours (1985)

in brown, you look gorgeous
in grey, you are stunning
in pink, you look ravishing
but in blue!
In blue
                you look ordinary

Gnats (1986)

gnats confused
flying in droves
lost
in a short life

Beam (1986)

oh
                beam
                                crack’d
                                                by time
wood wormholes are eating you away
one day
                beam
                                you may collapse
                                                                perhaps
