Swaffham Market Place

A poem from 1985...

Watch me perform it on YouTube...

Fish and chip stench
in the market place
dark afternoon
wood and metal skeletons
being dismantled
and the end of a hard day’s
work

a stone angel
perched on a dome
packing the stalls away
ready to go home
as we looked in the bookshops
for books about Christ
and all I could say was
“I wish I had a big cross like bishops have.”
