I Am Spartacus

A poem from 2018
I am a rebel
I am a slave
I am a prisoner
I am a killer
I am a fighter
I am a victor
I am free
I have been crucified with Christ

Sunset

A poem from 2018

She entered with a scream
A bright angel without wings
She departed with a soft groan

Her body worn away
Shrunken and shrivelled
Weak and decimated
Yet her soul rejoicing

She left to the sound of a muted trumpet
Flying to the fading light of sunset

Jane

A poem from 1986

oh, Jane
they say that you are plain
but you’re not

it’s driving me insane, Jane
but I can hear the rain
that stains the window

                it’s a strain
when I’m with you, Jane
not to be profane
and curse all those
who are stopping us from being alone

my heart is slain
over you, Jane
I’m going down the drain
again

oh, Jane
let’s take a train
or aeroplane
and go to Spain

my brain
is hurting, Jane
for without you I am like
a train without a track
a front without a back
a white without a black
a tick without a tack

Bond

A poem from 2018

The bad guys
Are bad shots
The flawed hero
Saves the world

The bad guys
With hammer and nails
The lord-hero
Saves the world

Happy Feet

A poem from 2018

Seraphim and cherubim
And all the holy angels
Disco dance on golden streets
Pure joy when a sinner repents

How about us?
Are we happy too?
Does it depend on who the sinner is?
Are we a grumpy older brother
Angry that the sinner got away with his crimes?
Are we indignant that one who is a worse sinner than us is forgiven?
Do we wonder what God is playing at
Forgiving one as bad as that
Doesn’t he know what that one did?
Are we cynical, thinking their faith is just a sham?
Do we insist on hellfire, forgetting that we too were rescued?

Seraphim and cherubim
And all the holy angels
Disco dance on golden streets
The lost sheep Jesus went to seek has come back home

Needles

A poem from 2018

I have a disease
So put me at ease
Before you administer the needle, please

I can't bear to look
The piercing of skin
Sends a shiver through me

I'll try to be brave
Neither rant nor rave
I want you to save

Infected with badness
Inject me with goodness
Infected with darkness
Inject me with light
Infected with Satan
Inject me with Christ

Green Screen

A poem from 2018

This is your life
You can be anything you want to be
You can do anything you want to do
As long as you want it enough

Create your own world
Bring it to life with your words
Speak out your destiny
You're the master of your universe
The captain of your fate

This is a fake life
This is a fantasy

Tell it to a boy living in a slum
Tell it to a girl who can't go to a school
Tell it to a man living on the streets
Tell it to a woman trafficked to a brothel
Their lives are not their own
They cannot be
