Happy Feet

A poem from 2018

Seraphim and cherubim
And all the holy angels
Disco dance on golden streets
Pure joy when a sinner repents

How about us?
Are we happy too?
Does it depend on who the sinner is?
Are we a grumpy older brother
Angry that the sinner got away with his crimes?
Are we indignant that one who is a worse sinner than us is forgiven?
Do we wonder what God is playing at
Forgiving one as bad as that
Doesn’t he know what that one did?
Are we cynical, thinking their faith is just a sham?
Do we insist on hellfire, forgetting that we too were rescued?

Seraphim and cherubim
And all the holy angels
Disco dance on golden streets
The lost sheep Jesus went to seek has come back home
