Cuckoo

A poem from 2017

Listen to a performance...

You know me
I'm funny
Every hour I pop out of old clocks
A silly cry then I'm back in my box

Cuckoo! Cuckoo!

You know me
I lay my eggs in another bird's tree
They look after my young for me
Tee hee hee!

Cuckoo! Cuckoo!

You know me
I'm often on TV
Appearing to be
A man of the peo-
Ple

Cuckoo! Cuckoo!

You don't really know me
It's a charade
I appear benign
But I take what's mine
At the expense of some poor mug
I'm the elite
My feet
Under the table
I'm able
To control you
And you don't even realise it!

Cuckoo! Cuckoo!
