Hit Me

A 2020 poem

Because I can take it
Because I’m an easy target
Because your questions are getting ever dumber
Because you set a trap to show how clever you are
Because you have to earn a crust
Because we’re all in this together
Because you have a reputation to keep up
Because you like the sound of your own voice
Because Because Because
You you you

Demockracy

A poem from 2019

Here’s one man
Here’s one vote
Take a note
Of the promises made
Take a note
Because one day
You may find you voted for a liar

Me and my constituents
We may not always agree
But they represent me
And when they’re wrong
I’ll do what I need to do
To ram the programme through

All hail the mighty Leader
I stand firmly behind you
All hail the mighty Party
I will always oppose you
It’s the role I choose

The people, they are sovereign
But the people can’t agree
I only am the people
The people are not me

Everything I do is right
Against injustice I will fight
Snack on a tasty sound bite

Cross my ballot and hope to die
Fingers crossed, now did I lie?

Vote for me and not for him!

Selective Amnesia

A poem from 2019

You can’t remember being nasty
But you can remember all the times when people weren’t being nasty to you
As though they were

You deny everything
Even when what you said is on tape
One hundred times you lied
And still refuse to take the blame

We, the people
We, the plebs
Me, the ruler
Me, the dregs

A plague on all your houses
Blindly self-destructing
We are not going to take this any more!

Well, probably we will...

Bring Me The Head Of John The Baptist On A Platter

A poem from 2019

How dare you tell us what to do!
To prison with you!
To prison with you!

How dare you teach us right from wrong!
To Hell with you!
To Hell with you!

How dare you tell us we are wrong!
Off with your head!
Off with your head!

The Masters

A poem from 2019

Ready, steady, go!
But we go nowhere
Empty vessels
The masters have left us
Abandoned, while they live the high life

The swelling bank balance
And the bonuses
And the bungs
We are stuck at A
While B remains a distant dream

The Village

A poem from 2018

They look smart in dresses, in suits and ties
But their native language is lies

Aloft and aloof they stand
Sneering at the common man

Appreciate your concern
But hope that you will burn

A democratic pretence
Always talking nonsense

Trapped inside a bubble
That’s the trouble

Talk and talk into the night
A preordained decision, ayes to the right

With weasel words they hide the truth
They deceive both old and youth

Dishonourable machinations
The Village serves its own imagination

Snouts in the trough, money talks
You cannot beat the system
Choose your leaders
But they are only puppets
Shoot one down and up pops another just the same, only much worse
And still we defend them, attack them
We petition them and it makes no difference
On it grinds, the wheel that crushes the population

Enema

A poem from 2017

It builds up until we can’t take it any more
I don’t know if we’re actively complicit
Or we just sit there, powerless

Magpies like shiny things and steal them
Can they be reasoned with?
Can you persuade them to give it all back
And make reparation on top of that
Or will they insist on feathering their nest at our expense
You may find the occasional repentant sinner
Can we sit down with them and talk?
Win their trust and then capture them
Making them tell us where they stashed the dough?

Uprisings come and uprisings go
Few and far between, they bring joy in the morning
But by tea time a new mini-dictator comes with smiles and promises
You know it won’t last but still you are happy
A self-deception? In denial? A yearning?
Power corrupts, but it can only corrupt an unrighteous man
A prince of peace is needed
A wonderful counsellor
A heavenly army

Flush out this detritus
Remove the mess we’ve made
Turn our suits into t-shirts
Give us all a holiday
Share the spoils
Treat us well
Serve the people
Plead for mercy
Weep for yourselves
The bells are silent
Where are we going?
To whom can we go?

Smash The Stupidarchy

A poem from 2017

Trolling our streets every day
Screaming with banners for pay
Everyone’s bad
It’s making you mad
Get a real job, go away!

Moaning about everything
Mostly left, but some are right wing
Let us just live our life
Without all your strife
Take your hook out and sling

Your anger and hate we all see
Not everyone will agree
The media loves you
Worships, adores too
Should be smashing your Stupidarchy

Cuckoo

A poem from 2017

Listen to a performance...

You know me
I'm funny
Every hour I pop out of old clocks
A silly cry then I'm back in my box

Cuckoo! Cuckoo!

You know me
I lay my eggs in another bird's tree
They look after my young for me
Tee hee hee!

Cuckoo! Cuckoo!

You know me
I'm often on TV
Appearing to be
A man of the peo-
Ple

Cuckoo! Cuckoo!

You don't really know me
It's a charade
I appear benign
But I take what's mine
At the expense of some poor mug
I'm the elite
My feet
Under the table
I'm able
To control you
And you don't even realise it!

Cuckoo! Cuckoo!

Attack Dogs

A poem from 2017

Listen to an audio performance...
Release the hounds!
Storm troopers death star
Private army death squad
Fringe militia death skull
Nihilistic banner death thugs

Subvert anarchy death march
Violent sucker death punch
Unjustice fanatics death chant
Siege mentality death circles
Fire starters death drones

Domestic terrorist death bleach
Unreason crack heads death stare
Name callers death rattle
Dissonant narrators death spittle
Smash mouths death swords

We blow you kisses, you beauties!
You are the story
Enemies enemies friends
We delight in confusion
Sow our seeds and up you grow

Peak Nonsense

A poem from 2017

I agree with every word you said
But because it's you saying it
I couldn't disagree more!

Pass the Popcorn, Please! (A ballade)

A poem from 2016

Watch me perform it on YouTube...

Watch those suckers fighting!
They devour each other every day
They claim to be uniting
Pressurised to stay
While desperate to get away
Crawling crimson knuckles and knees
Relish the internecine fray
Pass the popcorn, please!

Brothers, sisters, biting!
Politicking power play
Pledged allegiance owing
Fragile oneness, come what may
Half-mast the red flags barely sway
In the gently blowing breeze
Watch the acid shower spray
Pass the popcorn, please!

Nuclear winter approaching!
Observing the Hell to pay
Blood and bones displaying
Hominid puree
Do you wish you could replay
And make the time we squandered freeze?
With horror and dismay we say
Pass the popcorn, please!

So crack open the Beaujolais!
Discard for once our heart's disease
Sit beside me, interplay
Pass the popcorn, please!
