The Planets Part 2 - Venus, The Bringer of Peace

A poem from 2019

The calm before the storm of war
The silence after the destruction
War there, peace here
We are untouched by it
Do we help the victims?
We didn’t make them undergo countless horrors
We didn’t rob them of their smiles

Sleep, my baby, sleep, my child
Happy days lullaby
Gently, a mother sings
A soft tune, a romance, a nonsense
It’s all the same to one who knows no language
Soothing, Venus caresses
Holds us by the hand
Leads us to a land of dreams

Ballerina, dances pretty waltzes
Pink fluffiness, we sigh, this is wonderful
A little innocence, could it not have stayed this way?
Unfallen, bliss, she lifts her legs from the ground
She flies, excitement buzzing through her
Tiny bells, tinker bells, Eden
Forever young

The guns have stopped forever, for now
Relief washes away tears
Darkness fades
And then there is nothing

The Planets Part 1 - Mars, The Bringer of War

A poem from 2019

Can you hear it in the distance?
The sounds of darkness approach
Tap tappy tap like morse code
Such tiny evil, barely perceptible
Is it imagination?

Drums, unmistakable
Boots on the ground, marching
Trumpets blowing, we fear
We are a peace loving people
We are not prepared for this

Ominous, our hearts melt within us
Giants emerge, wielding weapons
We run, they chase
Our steps shorter than their Goliath strides
Trapped

We are martyred
Blows crash down upon our heads
A dagger through the eyes
They are not playing
Limbs sliced off

Harsh, human brutality
Man as animals tear flesh for fun
Thunder comes from their mouths, no laughter
Full frontal assault, relentless
Intense virago, their sex betrayed

Piercing, screaming
They do not know us
Yet they hate us
They are bent on conquest
World domination

Blood soaks into the ground
We are fallen
It is quiet
Death’s silence
Death’s orgy still

In This War

A poem from 1986

island of my imprisonment

you ache so much that you should be scarred by war

tortured deep within your green fields

raped by men with parachutes

upon the open plain

men crawl out from your wounds

like maggots from Job’s sores

preparing for death

with their guns before them

rigid with naked fear and disillusionment

acting as a fleshy shield

to prevent the enemy bullet

from harming the second rank

nobody knows the trouble you’ve seen

the blood and bones you’ve been force-fed

the tin hats returning to their primal home

in this war there are only losers

Truce

A poem from 1985

they decided to stop fighting
on Christmas Day
but at one minute past
midnight
on Boxing Day
the blood began to flow again

Boom Bang A Bang

A poem from 2016

Watch me perform it on YouTube...

Come closer, come closer and listen
The pounding of missiles
I notice it most when not sleeping
Come closer and cuddle me tight
Loud in my ear
Pounding away, pounding away

It’s such a frightful feeling
Don’t go away
I want to live
I want to live
Close to you

Your smile is so false and forced
Grinning, bearing
Hold me, give me hope
Love me tonight
Forever
That’s right
Let’s pretend it will stop soon

It’s such a scary feeling
When I’m in your arms
Hearing their arms
I feel your heartbeat
Fast and loud
In your arms
I hear your heart beat
I hear
I…
