Do-si-do

A 2020 poem

We pass each other by
Always slightly missing the point
Back to back
A sadness stares into the distance
Rewind
Determined to try again
Face to face
Who do I see in you?
Who do you see in me?

I look to the sky
But he is not there
I am not looking high enough
My little brain cannot quite grasp
“Big” is as good as my searching gets
A sadness, a sacrifice I make
To no avail
I will close my eyes and kneel
And wait
Impatient, I stand and wrestle
Until you bless me

Trail of Destruction

A 2020 poem

A heart slow-cooked
Turn up the volume
So you can’t hear the screams
Cancel that noise
So you can live as normal

Fingers in your ears
That’s the way to do it!
Beat him over the head with a stick
He’ll learn not to love again
A painful delicacy

Knit One, Purl One

A 2020 poem

Lonely boy
Steal a rib
Boy meets girl

Star-crossed lovers

Back to front
Opposites bind
Explosive energy

Sin-crossed lovers

Incessant blood
Deathly pale
The hem of His garment

Cross-crossed lovers

Hole

A 2020 poem - based on a poetic prompt "what shape is the sky?"

Kiss my infinity
Preserve my virginity
Streaks of light pollution rising
Tearing holes the eye cannot see or imagine
Broken hymen of creation
Tears of a clown

A shapeless ever shaping void
Undeniable, there is more to me
The heavens, the highest heavens
What can I contain?
Is there is a God-shaped galaxy awaiting?
They looked and saw wonders

Hold me in your hands
I hold you in my mind
Ever changing while never changing
Illusions descend on us
I will not always be here
I may well outlive you

Now

A 2020 poem

The farther I look
The less real it all becomes
All I have is now
A part-truth, a spiritual myopia
Eyes trained on what is in front of me
Where, then, is hope?

Bazooka Joe

A 2020 poem

A cornucopia of corny jokes
A life of plenty
A muddy, muddled motley crew
A life in adult absentia

Blow up the bubbly gum
A tasty treat
Hide in the attic
A life with chums

Oh, solemn day
Your childhood dies away
At the point of a dirty needle
Bazooka Joe is no more

Summon up the will to live
Put away that gun, soldier
My hearty lad, it’s not that bad
Look on the bright side for a while

Trade Off

A 2020 poem

If you do this for me, I’ll do that for you
If you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours
I’ll be your brother in your time of need, so you’ll be in my debt when I need help

No, no, no!
This is not love
This is not grace

Where There Once Was Life

A 2020 poem

Where there once was life
Is now an empty shell

Where there once was life
Is now an empty hell

Uncared for
Falling apart
Every effort spared
Ruined
Not fit for purpose

Human, human
You too will perish
